personal account of vision improvement

Hi, I'm new here, I just stumbled across this forum while searching for like minds on the web. I wanted to share my personal experience and also hopefully ask for some tips and advices.

Here's some background on me:

I've had glasses since I was in elementary school. Every time I got a new pair everything would be super sharp for a few days, and then my eyes would get worse. I only had myopia for the longest time, until right before college I went to get new glasses, and the optometrist prescribed astigmatism correction for me (which I'm pretty sure I didn't have yet at the point). The prescriptions were -6.25 (R with -0.5 astigmatism correction, I think) and -6.75 (L). That gave me headaches whenever I wore them, so I had to keep wearing contacts (which were very uncomfortable b/c they were the rigid gas-permeables). I also developed astigmatism at the point (I blame the glasses). At one point I was so frustrated that I wanted to get lasik, but luckily my brother convinced me not to, and introduced me to natural vision improvement.

I did eye exercises for 8 weeks, and in that time my eyes went down to -6.0 and -6.25. After that school started so I stopped, but I tried to maintain just good vision habits. I also got undercorrected lenses, which helped a lot. A few years later (without doing anymore exercises), I checked my eyes, they were -6.0 both eyes. Last year, they were both -5.75, and my astigmatism was gone.

Right now I'm also measuring clarity distance using a ruler. I'm always seeing perfectly clear at 18cm. Towards the end of the day I can see 19-19.5cm clearly. And once in a blue moon I can see 20cm clearly.

Now I want to do eye exercises again and it's really rather frustrating. For you who have improved your vision successfully, what exercises did you find were the most beneficial exercise?

Welcome!

I had my first pair of -1 glasses at 12, what power were yours at what age? I could tell a whole story about my first pair of glasses! Whoa, my eyes also would get worse with new glasses! The "majority opinion" optometrists maintain that glasses dont have an effect on your eyes but I still believe glasses hastened the stair-case progression of myopia. Do tell me about RGP contacts, I had contemplanted getting them but decided they werent worth the hassle and discomfort. How often do you have the problem of getting dust in your eyes and having to remove the RGP because they would hurt so bad?

You got a wise brother! Have him register and post here too! Too bad my own brother doesnt care but hes only -1 so it doesnt effect him. Undercorrection is what accounted for much of my improvement. Its like giving your eyes a chance to see without so much minus! Like weaning yourself down! I undercorrect myself with -3.25 for the computer and -4.5 and -4 for distance.

19cm is good, I used to be that bad but have improved to 22cm! Read without glasses and just far enough that its sliiiiiightly blurry then move closer, further, closer. I do this to force my vision to clear so I can improve .5cm at a time emoticon
